The Secondary School of Hospitality Industry and Services and The Higher Professional School, Opava

The Secondary School of Hospitality Industry and Services and The Higher Professional School, Opava, state - funded institution, provides three fields of study:

  • Three-year secondary study finished with a vocational certificate
  • Four-year secondary study finished with an A-level exam
  • Tertiary vocational study finished with a final examination of Certified Specialist

Apprentice study fields finished with a vocational certificate

  • Food producer
  • Baker
  • Pastry-cook
  • Butcher
  • Chef – Waiter
  • Shop assistant
  • Hairstylist

Students of apprentice fields of study do not pass the entry examination. The school provides a comprehension preparation, i.e. theoretical and practical training of fourteen-day study, which means one week of theoretical knowledge and one week of practical training. After successful passing of the final examination, the graduates achieve a vocational certificate from a given study field. They work in various enterprises in both; employees or employers.

Four-year study fields finished with an A-level exam

A. Hospitality Industry provides two specializations:

  • Modern Gastronomy and Healthy Lifestyle
  • Management of Services

Modern Gastronomy and Healthy Lifestyle is aimed at the new gastronomic and healthy lifestyle trends, i.e. healthy diet, civilization diseases prevention, association between mental and physical health, etc.

Management of Services prepares students for future careers in the field of hotel industry and facilities. The graduates are learned Economics, professional subjects of Gastronomy and two foreign languages. During practical training, students work in various hotel and restaurant establishments to gain suitable skills and abilities for their future careers.

B. Tourism

This study field prepares students for future careers in the field of tourist management. The study is focused on subjects of Economics, Tourism and Travelling and three foreign languages. Practical training is carried out in particular travel agencies, tour operators or information centres.

The unified entry examinations for four-year A-level study fields consist of the Czech Language and Literature and Mathematics.

A. Business Management

Due to the extensive knowledge of Economics and Law, students are prepared for passing an A-level exam. They participate in Junior Achievement Project, with opportunity to gain the Entrepreneurial Skills Pass (ESP).

Vocational Study

The Higher Professional School provides two study programmes:

  • Hotel Industry (full-time study, combined study)
  • Development and Management of Tourism (full-time study, combined study)

Hotel Industry (full-time study, combined study): The goal of the study is to provide students with necessary qualifications for carrying out mid-management positions. The study provides both; theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It is focused on key knowledge of foreign languages, communication skills and professional subjects. The Graduates work in the hotel and restaurant or spa establishments.

Development and Management of Tourism (full-time study, combined study): The goal of the study is to provide students with necessary qualifications for carrying out mid-management positions. The study provides both; theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It is focused on key knowledge of foreign languages, communication skills and professional subjects. The Graduates work for travel agencies, tour operators or as individual workers in the area of economic policy and administration. Students do not pass the entry examination.

The graduates achieve a non-academic title of Certified Specialist, its abbreviation (DiS) is used behind the name.
